The holiday season officially got underway for me on November 25 this year as my community transformed into the essence of Christmas Cheer for Christmas in Fort Oglethorpe.
Full disclosure here: I work for the City of Fort Oglethorpe, but I was so blown away by my experience that day that I had to write about it.
Fort O has always needed little reason to gather together. Still, that day, the air buzzed with excitement from the very beginning as the annual Christmas parade worked its way down Lafayette Street through the heart of the Historic District. The street overflowed with kids grabbing candy, parents watching with wonder, dancing to the LFO Marching Band, and laughing, oohing, and awing at nearly a hundred floats.
The heart of the celebration, where I spent most of my time, resided at Stable 41, where the Christmas Market beckoned with dozens of vendors offering handcrafted treasures, tasty treats, and unique finds. You could hear the sounds of excited shoppers as they found the perfect gift, mixed with music and laughter coming from Winter Skating. Winter Skating at Stable 41 added an extra layer of merriment as skaters glided across the rink of glICE, creating moments of pure delight.
The crescendo of the celebration culminated in the lighting of Fort O's Christmas tree. Thousands of citizens and friends gathered then cheered as the countdown hit zero, and the tree lit up their faces and lifted their spirits even higher. It was a moment that symbolized the joy of coming together in celebration.
Christmas in Fort Oglethorpe isn't just a series of events; it's a scrapbook of snapshots showing togetherness, tradition, and community. For families, it's an integral part of their holiday plans; cherished moments are made, and connections are strengthened.
As we reflect on this magical season, one thing remains certain: Christmas in Fort Oglethorpe isn't just an event; it's a feeling—an embodiment of the true essence of the holidays. It's a time when the community comes alive with the spirit of giving, sharing, and embracing the season's magic.
So, here's to the memories made, the traditions upheld, and the joy that Christmas in Fort Oglethorpe brings to our hearts year after year. Until we gather again next year, may the season's spirit shine brightly in our lives.
With warm wishes and fond memories,
